Infrared camera's are similiar to very expensive digital cameras. The difference being that they measure heat and produce a thermal image revealing hot spots in comparison to the surrounding area.

Infrared photography offers non-destructive inspections for accurate location of problems such as water leaks, faulty or missing insulation and overloaded electrical circuits.

The two images above show moisture collecting in a ceiling at an A/C vent and between and around trusses. This leak was traced back to a stucco crack near an upstairs window.
